Barely days after Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo said Deputy President William Ruto is not assured of Mt Kenya region’s support in 2022, another senator allied to the Jubilee party has come out to confirm the same sentiments.
Nominated Senator Paul Njoroge has warned Ruto against starting campaigns for his 2022 presidential bid, saying the move is ill timed.
Njoroge claims Ruto’s campaigns for election in 2022 are putting Central Kenya in an awkward position, since 2022 is far off and anything can happen between now and then.
While addressing journalists in Nairobi, Njoroge said the Mt Kenya region has the right to elect anyone they choose, and rubbished pledges by MPs from the region saying they will stand with Ruto once Uhuru’s term ends.
The senator argued that the promise by central Kenya MPS to stand with Ruto in 2022 is based on fear that he could dump the president in 2017 as he seeks re-election.
His sentiments had been earlier shared by Kiambu County William Kabogo, who was addressing a funeral in Juja Town, who seemed to say that the region cannot guarantee their support for the DP in his 2022.
