Barchilei said that leadership should not be left for one family.

He added that other families are also capable of producing good leaders to foster development in the region.

"We are aware that Ruto's son (Nick Ruto) has democratic rights to contest for the seat. However, we are urging his father who is DP Ruto, to leave the seat to other underprivileged families. They may monopolize elections since they are a very wealthy family," said the lawmaker at Soy Trading Centre.

Nick Ruto had said he was under pressure from area residents to vie for MP seat in 2017.

"Many people can easily be bribed by the rich. Vote someone based on good track records, not based on amount of money he or she has," he advised the residents.

The MP also said he will be defending his seat come 2017 general election.
