President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked Kenyans who have not yet registered as voters to do so before the exercise comes to an end next week, saying their vote will ensure peace and stability.
Saying Jubilee stands for peace and unity, the President said that was the reason behind the bringing together small affiliate parties under one umbrella to unite all Kenyans.
President Kenyatta appealed to Kenyans to register in large numbers and vote for the Jubilee Government in the August polls so that it could continue implementing transformative projects that will elevate the country to greater heights in growth and development.
“Everyone of you should enlist as a voter ready for the August elections. Your vote will determine the future of this country,” said the President.
The President was speaking on Saturday when he made stopovers at Nakuru town, Kikopey, Gilgil, Naivasha, Kinungi and at Uplands along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway to mobilise residents to enlist as voters before the close of the registration exercise next week.
President Kenyatta reminded Nakuru residents to guard against divisive politics, tribalism and hatred that caused violence in the past.
“As people of Nakuru County, you have first-hand experience of what destructive politics can do. Please, let’s join in hands in ensuring that the county will never again experience violence as a result of political rivalry,” President Kenyatta said.
He added: “Our war should not be fought through throwing stones at each other or attacking others with bows and arrows but by registering as voters so that we can elect leaders who support peace, unity and progress.”
The Head of State said as a God fearing nation, Kenyans should never again allow politicians to incite them to fight.
He once again assured that Jubilee would hold free and fair nominations as the party stands for true democracy.
“All aspirants seeking the Jubilee ticket at the nominations will be accorded an equal chance. The electorate will decide who the Jubilee flag-bearer will be,” said the President.
President Kenyatta reiterated his call to the youth to ensure they register as voters and participate in the August election as the future of the country would be determined by the type of leaders they elected.
“If you fail to register as a voter, you will have no one to blame other than yourself if bad leaders are elected,” said the President.
He said under the new Constitution large sums of money are under the management of Members of County Assemblies and Governors hence the need to vote wisely to ensure holders of those positions are not just politicians but also good managers.
The President also castigated Opposition leaders who have formed the habit of opposing every project aimed at improving the lives of Kenyans while claiming that Jubilee has done nothing for the country.
