The President said Cord will be allowed to demonstrate provided they "do not engage in violence".

Uhuru, who began his visit to Machakos county today, said democracy allows all Kenyans to seek leadership positions adding that "it is the people who will have the final word."

"We will serve all Kenyans irrespective of their political inclination. We are in Machakos to demonstrate that all Kenyans deserve service no matter their political persuasion," Uhuru said.

This comes after Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery on Tuesday banned the protests "to avert further violence, destruction of property, and loss of life," following the death of two protesters in Kisumu, and the injury of dozens others including a six-year-old boy during demos on June 6.

On Thursday, the government formed a joint committee to deal with the stalemate but the Cord coalition rejected the proposal.

Next week's Cords anti-IEBC countrywide demonstrations are slotted for Monday 13 and Thursday 15.
