Ford Kenya deputy party leader Boni Khalwale has rubbished claims of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho being more powerful than Cord co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula.

Speaking on Sunday, Khalwale dismissed Joho as Raila's deputy, saying he can't compete with Kalonzo and Wetangula.

“Joho is just a deputy of Raila in ODM. That is all. No one can put him at the level of Wetangula and Kalonzo. The only person he can compete with at his level is the other ODM deputy party leader, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya,” said Khalwale.

The Kakamega senator also claimed that Joho does not have any influence in Wiper and Ford Kenya strongholds in the country.

He dismissed the governor's influence in national politics, saying if ODM Party leader Raila Odinga, picked him as his running mate in the 2017 polls, the move would not benefit Raila in anyway.

The Mombasa governor’s rise in ODM has caused a storm in the Cord coalition, with a section of leaders criticizing him for popularizing his party, ODM, instead of the entire coalition.

This comes after Joho was appointed to spearhead Raila’s presidential campaign ahead of the next year's elections.
