Nyong’o said that involvement in sporting activities was the best way of fighting diseases like cancer, hypertension and diabetes if started at a tender age all the way to the adulthood.
She observed that sports should no longer be gender defined and that the notion that sports was a preserve of the males was ill advised
She argued that young people are at liberty to engage in athletics, football and badminton among other sporting activities saying it was a healing process that should be inculcated in young people at a tender age.
Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o stated that if mandated office by the electorate come August 8, 2017 he will endeavor to develop programs focused on culture and sports in Kisumu.
“We signed a contract with China to build five stadiums in Kenya including Kisumu City but this has never happened owing to deep rooted corruption amid state officers,” he stated.
The ODM Kisumu gubernatorial candidate said that the government undertakes functions that are budgeted for adding that if elected governor his team will prioritize sports and culture.
Prof. Nyong’o also revealed his plans to establish a museum to commemorate outstanding sportsmen and women from the Lake region like Peter Oronge to enable the young talent see and live the spirit of their predecessors and heroes.
On solid waste management which was financed by the French government but was discontinued owing to corruption, he said, he will swiftly revitalize the abandoned project and also seek fresh funding for it.
Prof. Nyong’o also lamented the pathetic state of Kisumu Moi stadium that he said had led to the relocation of planned hosting of African Nations Championship games (CHAN) from Kisumu to Eldoret owing to the poor levels of preparedness and insensitivity of the current Kisumu county leadership.
