A deputy county executive in the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Nakuru County has urged the youth in the county to pursue prospects in the tourism industry.
Timothy Kiogora Murithi said the county has great resources and opportunities in the sector.
The official on Friday said the county, apart from being a leading tourism region in the country, is strategically located as a transit route to tourists in East Africa.
"I challenge our youth to create self-employment opportunities by investing in tourism oriented activities within our local environment. We have plenty and creativity can give birth to more opportunities,’’ said Murithi.
He observed that the Nakuru County received about a million tourists both local and foreign in the last two years yet this could double if more innovations are carried out in the tourism sector.
Murithi, who quit an administrative post job at Egerton University and unsuccessfully vied for the Nakuru-East Parliamentary seat in the last general elections, said the county government will encourage the county assembly to pass a bill to promote a youth oriented tourism development policy. He said this will help local youth solve unemployment problems by investing in the tourism sector.
