He termed the conferences as a waste of public resources saying that no meaningful conversation could emerge from a sitting of 3,000 people.

“I wonder what can be achieved by a conference of 3,000 people. In normal circumstances, only four serious speakers address the meeting hence a total of 12 people will be heard during the three days. It is impossible to have an interactive debate with such a huge group,” he said.

Kimani said the fueling of vehicles and the issuing of per diems from the various counties is a great drain on the country's economy.

“This is the third conference and we haven’t seen much coming from the conferences especially with regards to the youth,“ he added.

He was speaking to the press on Tuesday where he also challenged the county assembly to handle their legislative work more seriously.

“It will more impactful than such conferences. They leave devolution matters to experts at the Ministry of Devolution at the national level especially since we have the Devolution CS Mwangi Kiunjiri who can be able to handle his job well,” he stated.

He estimated that the conference at Meru Polytechnic will cost at least half a billion shillings, which could be channeled into empowering the youths who in turn would benefit the country at large.

He pointed out that the only beneficiaries were the county involved and the hotels in the area.
