Midiwo was heading to a rally in Yala when the youth whose motive is still unknown smashed his car.

One person was seriously injured following the incident.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator was to address a rally over the controversial allocation of part of Yala swamp to an Indian investor by the county government to grow cotton.

Midiwo was in the company of Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo and businessman William Oduol when they were attacked at Nyadorera market.

“The allocation of 6,000 acres of land at Yala swamp was irregular. There was no public hearing. I am defending my people,” said Midiwo after the attack, as quoted by Nation.

The lawmaker accused Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga of mobilising the rowdy youth to interfere with the rally.

The MP and the governor have not been in good terms since the county government leased the swamp to the investors.

Midiwo has threatened to sue the county government over the matter.
