A youth representative from Machakos County has said a youth commercial centre will be established in the county to empower youth in the area.

Speaking on Sunday, at Kathwaa primary school grounds in Yatta, where local leaders had gathered for a prayer meeting, Felix Ngui, who is also Katangi Ward MCA, said the funds to construct the centre had been set aside by the government, adding that all that was required was the county to avail the 100 acres piece of land where the centre will be built.

He urged Governor Alfred Mutua to allocate the plot in the area so that the funds could be released, to enable commencement of the project.

Ngui called upon elected leaders to work hard to uplift the living standards of residents who elected them into various political seats.

“Youth have a great potential in contributing to the development of the county and leaders should avail various opportunities to them,” said Ngui.

The youth leaders also asked the MPs and MCAs not to waste time in the assembly debating their interests, and instead urged them to focus on developing their areas.

He also appealed for unity amongst leaders in Ukambani.
