The chairman of Mariakani Youth Group (MYG) in Menengai Ward Ben Kinyua says the local WDF committee should include local youth leaders in its plans to ensure accountability and equity in resource management.

“The local youth must benefit wholly from the fund because youth are the majority voters and most vulnerable economically and socially. This can be done by including youth group leaders in the fund’s management so that they can present development proposals from youths,” he pointed out.

Ndung’u, who spoke while presiding over a member registration for his group in the area yesterday at Mariakani Business Centre, said the government’s commitment towards youth empowerment was clear and that local leaders should not short-change the youth by side-lining them in local development plans.

He observed that the local youth do not benefit directly from the WDF allocated to each ward by the county government and petitioned local leaders including the area MP David Gikaria and Member of the County Assembly James Macharia to address the issue.
