Youth in Githunguri constituency on Wednesday received a free session on the procurement process to enable them compete in the tendering processes.
Speaking during the seminar at Githunguri Social Hall, Ann Mwangi, an official from the National Association of Youth Enterprise, said the youth should have adequate information in the procurement processes.
“For the youth to be eligible bidders in tender, they must be conversant with the tendering rules. The youth should know the tender numbers, tender description, tender security and the mode of submissions,” said Mwangi.
She further encouraged the youth to form and register groups with the Companies Act to facilitate quick procurement processes.
“Eligibility in procurement process requires one to have a registered entity, “added Mwangi.
The officer urged them to comply with the criteria processes, which include valid tax compliance certificate, pin and VAT certificates, adequate equipment and key personnel for the specified work.
She further encouraged the youth to apply for tenders especially for the Roads Department.
“The Roads Department is committed to empowering the youth, women and people with disabilities through the 30 percent contracts,” said Mwangi.
Mwangi, however, said Kiambu County has not committed itself to implementation of the 30 percent procurement rule to the youth.
