A youth group from Nyamira has termed Governor John Nyagarama’s remarks on a local radio station that he gave Sh30,000 to organisers of a youth summit as ‘utter nonsense’, and labeled the governor a ‘liar and propagandist’.
Nyagarama claimed on Thursday during an interview at Egesa FM that his government had given Sh30,000 to the summit organisers, where the youth group was part of the organising team.
But in a quick rejoinder, Nyamira Youth Alliance Chairperson Nyambega Gisesa released a statement to reporters accusing the governor of being an ‘escapist’.
“The claims that Nyagarama gave us Sh30,000 are utter nonsense and an indication how he has been surviving on lies and propagandas in his failing leadership,” read the statement.
“We only received Sh20,000 which went to seven musicians who had been invited to entertain participants and he understands that. The county promised to support the summit by giving out tents and chairs which they never did. Its therefore wrong for him to purport that he supported the aborted summit,” added the statement.
Nyambega also accused the Nyagarama of ‘hiring goons’ to disrupt the December 2015 event after the organisers failed to heed to his bribery attempts.
“I can confirm as one of the top advisors that we refused a bribe to call off the summit since the Governor was against it. He decided to hire goons to disrupt the summit of which they succeeded,” Nyambega added.
The group, through Nyambega demanded an official apology from the governor, whom they accused of propagating ‘unwarranted’ propagandas.
“We demand that he uses the same platform to withdraw his 'reckless' remarks and unwarranted propaganda. The Youths of Nyamira who are victims of unemployment and discrimination cannot accept him to propagate lies,” added the statement.
