A local newspaper on Saturday reported that Nyagarama had been booed by goons who had been imported by gubernatorial aspirants, a claim that has been disputed by Nyamira Youth Alliance under the leadership of Nyambega Gisesa.

In a statement to reporters on Sunday, Gisesa said the governor was subjected to hostility due to minimum achievement since he took over in 2013.

“The Nyamira Youth Alliance dismisses reports by the media that Nyagarama was booed by goons who were imported by his competitors,” read the statement.

“The reaction from the crowd shows how Nyagarama has lost popularity, meaning that he is in his final months in office because people are tired with his minimal impact to them in terms of development,” Gisesa said.

The group accused Nyagarama of failing to tame rampant corruption in his regime and demanded that he addresses emerging issues of nepotism and clainism in his government.

“No one hired goons as its being purported by the county government but that is the reality on the ground because people are tired with his leadership,” he said.

Nyagarama had torrid moments when he tried to address the mourners on Friday, with the charged crowd forcing him to cut short his speech that was attended by thousands of county residents.
