Makadara Youth Group based in Athi River has embarked on an ambitious commercial poultry project in a bid to improve their livelihoods.
The Group has invested Sh150,000 in poultry business which, they said will add more value to their lives as Groupp members.
According to the Group's Chairlady Nancy Miriti, the idea was initiated by a number of youths from the county who have cleared form four and have not secured employment as a way of helping them get something to earn them a living.
“It was hard for many of us to go on with education after form four due to lack of enough school fees and since it is not easy to secure a good job with a form four certificate we decided to come up with this project,” explained Miriti.
Miriti added that getting capital was a challenge but with the assistance from their parents and close relatives they were in a position to raise Sh150,000 to start the poultry farming.
“At first we wanted to do Agribusiness, but we later changed our minds after getting some advice from some expert from the area due to hostile weather in this area,” added Miriti.
She added that the group is working under professional guidance from an expert and entrepreneur in the industry.
