Residents of Kisumu West constituency have aired their dissatisfaction with the manner in which Uwezo Fund was distributed in the constituency. Led by Kisumu West ODM youth leader Philip Ogol, the residents said most youth groups and women groups were not considered in the distribution. The residents now want the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) to move in and investigate the handling of the funds. “The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission must come in and investigate how the Uwezo Fund was distributed,” he said. Ogol added that many briefcase groups were funded yet most of the established groups were left out while some were given meagre funds. He said the funds were meant to uplift groups that are struggling at the grassroot yet other groups that have nothing to show in the ground benefitted. ‘We have groups that are operating in the area yet they are left out while others got as little as Sh60,000,” he said. Addressing the press in Kisumu accompanied by over ten groups, Ogol said the youth will hold peaceful demonstrations in the constituency adding that they have lost faith in the Judiciary since a case they forwarded recently was dismissed with costs. “We are going to protest peacefully to show the country that we have no faith in the way Uwezo Fund is being distributed in our constituency,” he said.
