A 27 year old man was on Wednesday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of robbery with violence by a Nakuru Magistrate’s court.

 Anthony Okemwa was found guilty of the offence committed on 19th August 2013 at Ingobor area within Nakuru in association with others not before the court  while armed with pangas and rungus.

The court heard that Okemwa and associates who are still at large robbed Ms Matilda Nyaboka off a sewing machine, a wheel barrow and her electronic devices, all valued Sh60,000.

In her testimony, Ms Nyaboke said Okemwa and colleagues broke into her house at 2a.m while she was asleep with her two young children before making away with the property.

The victim also told the court that she was able to identify her attackers during the robbery incident.

Ms Nyaboke also said the assailants assaulted her occasioning her serious bodily harm during the incident.

In his ruling, Senior Principal Magistrate James Mwaniki said he was satisfied with the prosecutor’s evidence to warrant the conviction of the accused person.

“After analysing testimonies issued, I have no doubt the accused was among the people who stole from the complainant and his accomplices assaulted her and I convict him to serve ten years in respect to offence”, said Mwaniki during the judgement.

The accused was allowed 14 days to launch an appeal against the sentence.
