According to the star, James Mungao and eight other accomplices from Kibera appeared before Justice Joyce Gandani, the senior principal magistrate at the Milimani Law Courts to answer three counts of charges. The nabbed youth were charged with cases of taking part in unlawful protests, disrupting peace in Olympic area and blocking public transport routes, which they all pleaded not guilty to.

Mungao freed the nine on a cash bail of Sh2,000 with an alternative bond of Sh10,000.

The protests that rocked parts of Nairobi for the better part of Monday afternoon saw a number of people injured with a good number of businesses closed.

The police summoned in the hot spot areas have also been blamed for using excessive force to quell the riots, a fact that has since been discarded by the police spokesperson, Charles Owino who pointed out that police officers have their own rights and the application of excessive force is acceptable under certain conditions, especially if their lives are in danger.
