A rape victim in the past. [Photo/Nation]A youth leader in Bogeka ward, Kitutu Chache South in Kisii County has blamed parents for the increased cases of defilement in the region.
On Wednesday, while speaking in Bogeka ward John Mokaya said parents of rape victims have been too lenient whenever rape suspects have been arrested.
“Increased cases of defilement in Kisii should be blamed on parents who agree to solve such matters outside of the courts. Parents should stop being lenient to ensure that rape suspects are jailed,” he said.
He urged Nyumba Kumi officials, chiefs and elders to stop having mercy on the rape suspects.
“Local government officers and elders should surrender rape victims to police. As youths, we are not going to allow any rape case to be solved outside the court,” he said.
