A Youth Lobby Group in Nakuru County is seeking for sponsorship to help establish a Cultural Village Centre that will boost tourism and cultural heritage in the region.
Speaking to this writer in an interview Friday morning in his office, Mawanga Youth Agenda (MYA) Chairman Antony Waweru said that the Youth Group was contacting stakeholders in the tourism, Youth Agenda and Culture and the county government on the initiative after finalising on their proposal.
Waweru said that the group had already identified several sites for the cultural centre and highlighted aims, objectives, design, contents, and activities of the proposed cultural village and was optimistic of persuading possible sponsors of the project.
“We are optimistic that this proposal will be attractive to possible sponsors. We intend to contact as many as possible prospective sponsors both locally and a broad and both physically and through mail,’ said Waweru.
He added that the proposed cultural village idea was muted out of the fact that there are no definite Cultural Centres in Nakuru town that could help conserve local cultural heritage material and stir up tourism attraction for both local and foreign tourists.
According to Waweru the proposed Cultural Centre will involve conservation of local cosmopolitan and aboriginal communities’ cultures and traditions through the collection of cultural artifacts and items.
Waweru noted that the Centre will also be constructed based on an African traditional setting theme including a natural environment of plants and thatched houses architecture.
The centre will have an Africana book collection library and will have models of people from diverse cultural backgrounds who live in Nakuru County. Waweru added that the Centre will on regular basis organise cultural events like traditional music shows, workshops and exhibitions.
