A police officer based at Kogelo Police Station was on Monday killed by boda-boda operators in Barkowino area in Siaya County.

The officer was forcefully ejected from a Public Service Vehicle by the unruly youth who accused him of protecting a suspect.

The officer is said to have been seen with the suspect identified as Caleb Omoro. The boda-boda operators had wanted to lynch him for allegedly stealing a motorbike from one of their members early this year.

But unknown to the youth, the officer, in the company of his colleague was tracking another burglary suspect, who was Omoro’s friend.

“He had come to Bondo in the company of police constable  Rodgers Nalianya of Kogelo Police Station and later joined constable  Kimutai Ngeno of Bondo Police Station to arrest an accomplice in his case of robbery and stealing before Siaya Law Courts coming up for hearing on November 14, 2017,” a police report said.

The officer boarded a matatu heading to Siaya but about one kilometre from Bondo Police Station, “the vehicle was blocked by a group of irate boda-boda operators who forcefully ejected him.”

Police officers rushed to the scene upon receiving information from a member of the public and rushed him to Bondo County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
