The irate youths claimed that the government had allegedly ignored their pleas to have speed bumps installed in the area, hence leading to many accidents.

“During Easter we lost at least 10 people in Kinungi. Many more are seriously maimed and nursing lifelong injuries. This has to stop completely and if the government will not help us we will do it ourselves,” said Brian Mutongu, a youth in the area.

He stated that they have already selected areas that are prone to accidents.

Janet Muthoni claimed that she was forced to escort her children daily to school so that they do not get knocked down by vehicles.

“Majority of the vehicles using this route are always over speeding and we fear that they might run over our children. In fact there has been increased cases of hit and run in the area and we use this as a caution to prevent unnecessary deaths,” she added.

Lakeview MCA Simon Wanango appealed to the residents to be very careful while using the roads.

“There has been increased cases of people being knocked down especially in the last few weeks. I am calling on all the drivers to be extremely careful and to ensure that they protect the lives of the people on the roads,” he added.
