Speaking at Kabarak University during an agricultural exhibition over the weekend, Mbugua said agriculture has the potential to create jobs to address the current high unemployment rates.

He asked the youths to focus on agriculture as a form of earning a living instead of waiting for the few available or non-existent white collar jobs.

Mbugua indicated that his government has set aside adequate funds meant to sensitise youths on the importance of agriculture.

The county boss said that food insecurity worries will be a thing of the past if the government encourages the youth to take up agriculture.

“We will soon commission campaigns aimed at encouraging young people to venture into agriculture,” Mbugua said.

“Agriculture can create jobs and at the same time assure of food security.”

He also urged youths to apply for development funds and use them to initiate agricultural projects.

Governor Mbugua said his government will continue providing farm inputs to farmers across the county to increase productivity. He indicated that a three-year plan has been formulated where more than 11,000 farmers will be getting subsidised fertilisers.
