Athi River Location Chief Nzau Komo has told youth to shun idleness and engage in activities that will improve their living standards.
Addressing a baraza in Athi River town on Sunday, Komo lamented that the level of laziness in the area is dire adding that action must be taken.
“The level of laziness in this location is wanting. It is high time the youth became focused,” said Komo.
Komo argued that poverty experienced by most families in the region would continue if the young generation was not focused.
He said majority of the youth from the region were equally not taking their studies seriously when in school, a situation that makes them fail in KCPE and KCSE.
The chief said that such are the youth who engage in drinking, chewing khat and smoking cigarette and bhang.
He said idle youth are a security threat to the community and their families and encouraged parents to work with the provincial administration to show their children the right way.
