Youth in Nakuru have been urged to use social media to empower themselves economically instead of applying it on introduction uses.

This was said by the regional co-ordinator of Capacity Africa Lucy Wanjala when he addressed youth groups, young entrepreneurs and University students’ leaders today (Thursday) during the opening of a workshop on the Impacts of Social Media on Leadership and Socio-Economic growth in the Digital Era at Bontana Hotel in Nakuru town.

“I know most young people in the country who fancy the social media do not realise that they can actively use the resource to grow economically. They waste a lot of time and resources chatting with friends and posting unnecessary items on the internet yet they can earn money and grow their public image using the same platforms,’’ oberved Wanjala.

She told young leaders to be ambassadors of productive use of social media and other internet resources to their peers by encouraging them to explore productive ways of using internet resources.

According to Wanjala, internet resources in the modern digital technology have opened new avenues and opportunities for creative and innovative socio-economic development that every right minded young person ought to aspire to be knowledgeable about.

She noted that many young people across the world who are conscious about the benefits of social media and other internet resources have enriched themselves socially and economically including getting self employment and sourcing information that can be of beneficial to many other aspects of their lives including health.
