Speaking to journalists during an event to mark the Lake Victoria Day with the theme of Promoting EAC regional integration Agenda through the Youth, Prof Bonyo said the youth can create initiatives that can be supported the county government in conserving Lake Victoria.

"Control of pollution is a job and there is money intended to fight pollution in the lake. That is a way of job creation for the youth," he said.

Lake Victoria Basin Commission Executive Secretary Dr Canisius Kanangire said the aim of the project is to build a continuous youth capacity to sustainable development in activities in culture and understanding of opportunities in the region.

"The youth have a role to play in the integration agenda in this region to promote regional integration from the neighbouring and see what they offer in terms of development,” said Dr Kanangire.

He added that the youth have a role to play in bringing solutions to matters of environment and poverty in the five states of EAC.

Dr Kanangire said Lake Victoria Maritime Communication Transport project funded by African Development Bank will improve mobility of people for trading and offer transport in the lake.

"Africa is growing very fast and we don't invest in our roots we will loose the opportunities. The youth links both modernity and our roots," he said.
