Kisii youths have been urged to desist from drinking habits that end up ruining their life.
This is according to Geoffrey Nyambane who is a recovering drug addict from Kisii.
Nyambane, who is a University of Nairobi drop out was pursuing civil engineering before his career was cut short by drugs and alcoholism.
He was speaking to Mwembe youth yesterday in a youth service after being admitted to a rehabilitation centre in Eldoret.
“My all life was turned upside down the moment I started doing drugs. I started with alcohol after being introduced by my friends," said Nyambane.
"Little did I know that fun had changed from a habit to addiction and I found myself an addict that would rely solely on the drugs,” he said.
“I then took the dirty path and experimented with cigarettes then came marijuana before settling for cocaine and heroin,” he said.
“From there I would no longer go for lectures and would just concentrate on the drugs and how I felt," said Nyambane.
"I no longer needed the drugs for euphoria but as a medicine for I was sick and would suffer much from the withdrawal symptoms forcing me to do anything including stealing in order to get the drugs which were rare and expensive,” he added.
“Drugs are not good and have a way of positively reinforcing itself setting in addiction ultimately and that is where you get trapped,” he said.
“Be smart, make the right decision. Avoid drugs and plan your future. If only I would have been told early enough the consequences of this habit I would not be where I am since all my colleagues are employed having families and driving big vehicles and here I am in a rehabilitation centre,” said Nyambane.
