The proprietor of Sungura Investment Farm, Samuel Mbugua said that rabbit farming is the simplest form of farming because it requires little resources to start.

Speaking at his farm on Thursday during presentation of 20 rabbits to 12 youth at Nyamangara, Mang'u Ward, Gatundu North sub-county, Mbugua said that rearing of rabbits is the threshold of wealth creation to youth.

He urged youth to venture in rabbit rearing as it requires less capital.

“Rabbits do not require a big space and the foliage is locally available, you don't need to go in a shop to buy supplements,” Mbugua said.

He said that the venture has a wider market owing to vicinity of Nairobi City.

“This form of farming has wider market because Nairobi is near and has many restaurants that require rabbit meat,” said Mbugua.

Mbugua noted that a mature rabbit goes for Sh6000, a handsome income to youth.

He said that apart from provision of meat, rabbits’ by-products and other products like urine and skins are of economical use.

“1 liter of rabbit's urine fetches Sh200; with 5 rabbits you can collect 1.5 liters of urine daily or Sh6000 a month from sale of urine,” he added.

Mbugua declared that he would help more youth in the farming of rabbits

Daniel Kamau 19, on behalf of the youth thanked Mbugua for the seed investment and vowed to manage the project to successful enterprise.
