The Gitiha Youth Group has petitioned the county government to put in place mechanisms to enable them access county tenders floated within the county.

Speaking today at the Gitiha Trading Centre during a youth seminar, group chairman Boniface Waiganjo said that youth from Kiambu have been left out in the procurement process.

“We the youth would like the county government to review the procurement law to enable us access county tenders. We are not benefiting from the 30 per cent set aside for the youth due to influence of the politicians,” said the chairman.

He said that the youth have a role to play in the development of the county and they should be given a chance.

“The youth have a stake in the development of the county. The county government should review the procurement laws to attract the youth as a way of creating job opportunities,” said Waiganjo.

He called on the Public Procurement Oversight Authority (PPOA) to intervene in order to enable them realise their dreams.

“Thirty per cent of the procurement is supposed to be reserved for the youths. This has not been possible here,” lamented Waiganjo.
