This comes a day after Afya Yetu group led hundreds of the students in sensitising town residents on contraceptive use.

Kelvin Ochieng’, a student says he has had several relationships but has never thought of using a condom.

“In my entire life, I have never used a condom. It is difficult to use it on some girls who refuse to use it while having sex. Am sure that it is not only me but a good number of youths hate using condoms,” he says.

Eve Kerubo, another student argues that she has never told her partner to use condoms besides being shameful to carry around a female condom.

“To be honest with you, I have never asked my man to use it. When you also talk of a female condom, I fear carrying it because my colleagues may view me as promiscuous,” she argues.

Another student, Japheth Orina, dismisses use of condoms and subsequently associates them with immorality.

“Why use condoms? It then means you are immoral to an extent that you want to stay safe because you know what you do. In our Catholic teachings, this is absolutely wrong,” he says.

Over the weekend, university students were urged to use contraceptives when having sex to avoid contraction of STDs and HIV and Aids related ailments.

Afya Yetu representative Pauline Okemwa urged the students to take precaution by embracing use of contraceptives such as condoms.

“As youths, you may be tempted to have unprotected sex which is risky. It is your duty and obligation to ensure uses these contraceptives,” she said.
