Nakuru’s Flamingo Member of County Assembly (MCA) Moses Gichangi has asked youths in the Ward to shun crime and instead support development.
Speaking when he met youths leaders in the Ward on Sunday, the MCA said that many young people have resulted to crime out desperation for lacking employment.
The MCA said the situation is worrying and a threat to future of the county noting that something has to be done address the challenge.
“It is saddening that many our youths are joining criminal gangs for lacking job opportunities,” he said.
Gichangi appealed to the county government to create job opportunities for the youths and help curb the problem.
He noted that current measures being taken need a boost adding that the private sector should intervene on the issue of unemployment.
The MCA promised to follow on issues presented by the youth concerning unemployment. He added that he will consult and work with other leaders to see what can be done.
Gichangi however asked youths to take advantage of the opportunities being offered by the government to better their lives.
He said that idling and complaining will not help and that young people must be active and take part in activities that will earn them descent income.
