Yatta legislator Francis Mwangangi has appealed to the youths in the constituency to use social media wisely.

The MP who addressed reporters at his office on Friday complained that many social media users are using the platform to perpetuate hate.

The MP noted that the law is harsh on those who use social media to preach hate and rumour-mongering.

“Young people who are the main users of the social media should know that the law is harsh and must use the platforms carefully,” he said.

Mwangangi said that tribal comments on social media have often caused animosity and conflict.

He asked the youth to use the internet wisely which he said can help them access more skills and education.

The Yatta MP urged the government to remain firm on those who misuse social media sites.

He said that tribalism perpetuate on social sites is a big problem that needs urgent measures.

The lawmaker further asked the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to organize reconciliation forums across the country.

Mwangangi observed that some parts of the country that were badly hit by the escapades of the 2007/2008 post poll chaos have not completely healed.

The MP said that politicians are the main catalysts of chaos and asked them to mind what they say to their supporters.
