Twenty youths have been arrested in Athi River town for idling with instead of engaging in constructive activities.
Athi River Township Chief, Joel Mukwa, said the youths and others who were still at large were a threat to the town’s security.
"January is a difficult month with much hunger and therefore the idling youth are a big threat to security in this area, they should get something constructive to do for their livelihoods," said Mukwa.
Mukwa, who was addressing the press in his office yesterday, said the youths who were arrested at different joints within the town had been detained at the chief camp as they were being interrogated.
He said the youths were arrested in pubs, estates, pool table joints, video cafes, and in shopping centres lazing around at day time instead of joining others in building the nation.
"We have issues and increased cases of insecurity in this town, lots of complaints have been reported hence reason why my office has launched clean up of youths from the joints,” he said.
He said the youths had questions to answer given that they do not work but some lived even more descent livelihoods than those who work.
Mukwa argued that some of the youths were just buying time with hidden intentions adding that their criminal friends sought refuge in the joints at day time as they spy and strategise on where to rob at night.
