Speaking in Thika town over the weekend, Majority county assembly leader Patrick Chege instead urged young people to utilise their free time wisely.

He alleged that some politicians are taking advantage of rising unemployment to engage young people in violence.

“I want to urge Kiambu youths to be ambassadors of peace and shun people perpetuating hatred and violence,” said Chege.

The majority leader added that the county assembly is drafting bills meant to ensure the welfare of youths and women is promoted.

He further stated that the county has set aside enough funds that will help young people venture into business enterprises to earn a living.

He however challenged youths, women and people living with disability to come out and apply for government funds, saying the recently launched Kiambu Biashara Fund is easily accessible and that youths should not fear.

“Do not shy away from these funds, they are meant for you. Form groups and apply for these funds to help you start businesses and empower yourself,” added Chege.

He noted that the government is keen to curb unemployment among youths and empower women.
