Youths in Uasin Gishu county have been challenged to take part in development activities in order to curb unemployment and poverty.

Speaking at Eldoret Town on Sunday, Deputy President William Ruto said that young people must use their talents and skills to support development.

He said that the youths have a big role to play in matters development, adding that the national government and the county governments are working on policies to spur youth empowerment.

“Young people should use their skills and help the governemnt as it focuses on addressing the socio-economic challnges facing the society,” he said.

The DP observed that most issues facing the society can be addressed if young people are enagged in development.

The Deputy President asked the county governments to involve youths in development activities.

Ruto said that the government is keen to fulfil the pledges it made to young people during the 2013 General election campaigns.

“We are keen to create the a million jobs every year that we promise the youths,” he said.

The DP at the same time asked young people to be ambassadors of peace and stay away from people who might wan to use them as weapons of violence.

Ruto said that time has come for the youths to focus and take advantage of the funds being given by the government to uplift their lives.
