The journey to review the National Youth Policy began on Thursday in Machakos County.

Youths from the Lower Eastern Region with representation from Embu, Kitui, Makueni and Machakos Counties convened in Machakos to deliberate changes to the 2007 policy.

Speaking while officially launching the  policy review exercise, Machakos deputy county commissioner Sam Ojwang said the government is committed to the youth agenda arguing there is no Kenya without the youth.

Ojwang reiterated the important roles youths play in the nation.

He said youths are the seeds of continuity, energetic hence valid workforce for building Kenya to prosperity.

Ojwang said the government is keen on empowering the youth through employment where a significant number of the new work force is considered for those below 40 years.

He said this is a matter of policy since a youthful person will serve the country longer at his energetic age thus value for tax payers' Money.

Ojwang told the youth to take advantage of their strength in numbers since they comprise over 51% of the population arguing they stand good chances of succeeding those in employment and soon retiring.

"The government is paying each youth joining polytechnics Sh15,000 to give them employability skills and training so as to stand a chance for fair competition in the work force," Ojwang said.

Present at the launch included the national coordinator Simon Mwangi and the Lower Eastern Regional coordinator Josephine Eteni.
