More than 300 youths from Kasarani Area in Naivasha have demonstrated against the ongoing works on the North Lake road.
The youths carried placards and tree branches as they demanded to be given equal job opportunities from the contractor who is tarmacking the road. They went ahead and stormed the SS Mehta offices forcing the Administration Police to intervene.
According to Geoffrey Kinyanjui who is a youth in the area, the contractor hired workers who have even started working without involving the people of kasarani.
"There is no one from Kasarani who has been employed. The contractor came with the workers from other areas. Youths from Kasarani area did not get the job here and yet the road passes in our area", Kinyanjui told this writer.
Kinyanjui added, “The contractor did not involve the local people when it came to employing workers.”
Josphat Sang who is the senior manager of the company refused to talk to the demonstrators after he was booed.
Sang was trying to tell the protestors that they have plans to employ more workers starting next week before he was shouted down.
