Led by their chairman Eric Muthoka, the youths from Machakos, Kitui and Makueni Counties resolved to work together in laying strategies so as to benefit from national and their respective county governments.

Muthoka said only a handful of youths from the region benefit from government tenders despite the 30 percent slots provided for in the constitution.

He urged youths from the three counties to join Lower Eastern Youth League and shun retrogressive politics.

"We were not brought together by politics but because of our intention to make use of the untapped chances and opportunities in national and county governments that are slotted for us," Muthoka said.

Muthoka said the league will ensure youths from Ukambani speak in one voice.

"Numbers don't lie. If we stand as one, we can be able to conquer and make our voices be heard," Muthoka added.

He rubbished claims that the meeting was convened by Wiper party.

Muthoka said it was conducted out of ideas from the youths.

He said the meetings will be rotational in the three counties.
