On Friday, Hon. Walter Nyambati asked Sungututa youths to desist from engaging themselves in perilous activities such as stealing but instead join the informal sector as a way of tackling unemployment rates.

”I really don’t know why youths have developed a negative attitude towards this sector given its significant contribution to the Gross National Product and Per Capita. We must have an interest in as a way of tackling unemployment,” he said.

“When we were in Parliament, we managed to pass Sessional Paper No. 2 of 2005 that gave full mandate to the informal sector by giving them financial support and infrastructure,” he said.

He asked the government to help implement the law and have youths benefit from the financial support of starting the business.

“The government should work to ensure that our people benefit from this sector. It should implement to the latter the policies that were passed by the house and assented to by President Mwai Kibaki,” he said.

He pledged to advice President Uhuru Kenyatta administration to put emphasis on the sector besides asking more youths to develop an interest to the business.

“The government has no otherwise other than to ensure our people get enough support when it comes to informal sector. If our youths are empowered through such initiatives, we will have the rate of crime reduce drastically,” said the former MP who is allied to the Jubilee government.
