A youth group from Kisumu has embarked on a mission to mobilize people from the region to register as voters during this registration period.
The Group, under the umbrella Registration for a Better Tomorrow, uses social media sites; especially Facebook to reach the target audience.
Using the Facebook page ‘Register Now’, the group highlights the importance of registering as voters.
According to the Director of the group, Moses Otieno, many people usually cry out for better services but do not do anything to improve those services despite having the power in their hands.
“The first step of getting maximum services from the government is to register as a voter while you have the chance, because you will be able to vote in the people they are right to lead them,” said Otieno.
Otieno added that together with other youths from the county, they were also motivated with the fact that the area has more legit voters but they never turn up for registration.
The group established four weeks ago has managed to reach out to more than 3, 000 people with the youths being a majority of them.
A part from educating on the importance of voter registration, the group also identifies voter registration location in the area.
“We are also targeting to get from social media and take our campaign to the people on the group, once we have enough resources,” added Otieno.
He also challenged the government to ensure those who qualify for identification cards to be issued in order to facilitate the registration process.
He was speaking in Kisumu during briefing session on the advancement of the programme.
