Youths in Eldoret town on Friday threatened to present a petition to President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve the Uasin Gishu County Assembly over a law it passed governing employment.
The youths asked the county assembly to immediately repeal the law which they alleged that it prevents the county government from hiring new employees.
They said that the “draconian” legislation has denied many qualified youths a chance to get employment in the county.
“As youths, we are not happy at all by the county assembly. This law is unnecessary and must be repealed or we ask the President to intervene,” said Nicholus Lang’at, one of the leaders.
They attributed the law to the infighting between the county assembly and the executive which they said is not healthy.
“We want them to end their disagreements and do what we elected them for. We are suffering because of them,” added Lang’at.
The group noted that no development will be realized if such quarrels continue.
“Superiority contests and daily squabbles will benefit no one,” added Lang’at.
