Kisumu youth forum secretary general Martin Oluoch has said that the county government is risking losing by not involving the young minds in running the day to day activities.

“The youth are known to have brighter ideas and they are future leaders and therefore they need to gain experience as early as possible. When we are sidelined this means that our county’s future is in doubt,” said Oluoch.

He said that they have been promised leadership position before and they have waited but up to date nothing has happened.

“We feel as aliens in this county because the same old people who have been in leadership continue leading us even though their track record is not attractive. How do you appoint a person when they have proved that they cannot deliver? posed Oluoch.

Oluoch added that it is heartening that even the youths are sidelined when it comes to decisions affecting them directly.

“Time for empty promises is over because during campaigns, most youths are promised to be given positions in government. With county governments, we thought things would be better for us but it is getting worse just like the previous national government regimes," said Oluoch.

Oluoch said that young people being a majority of voters should be appreciated now. He called on the county government to act immediately before the next general election.

He was speaking during an interview in Kisumu on Friday.
