Dundori Young Farmers Group members in Bahati sub-county have threatened to demonstrate over alleged delays in the disbursement of Youth, Uwezo Funds by local leaders.
Led by their Chairman Haroun Wanyoike, they have given the area Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri and Member of County Assembly representative Stephen Kihara two weeks to address the issue and ensure that they are allocated Funds.
According to the Youth Group, there have been wrangles and controversies surrounding the disbursement of the funds that have caused delay in releasing of the funds.
The Youth Group leaders who talked to this writer at the area Chief’s office on Tuesday after presenting a petition, claimed that the area chief has been inviting them for meetings in which the fund’s beneficiaries would receive their cheques only for the same to be postponed without tangible reasons.
“We want explanation why these meetings keep on being postponed, yet we have information that cheques are ready. We are giving our area leaders two weeks to respond, otherwise we will mobilise various youths to demonstrate and expose them,’’ warned Wanyoike.
According to Wanyoike, various youth groups in the area had registered and took part in training workshops on how to apply and use the Fund six months ago with only empty promises coming from local leaders.
