Nakuru deputy governor Joseph Ruto has advised youths from the county to beware of politicians who only want to use them to achieve personal interests and don't help them.
Speaking on Tuesday during a youths workshop organised by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) in Nakuru Town, Ruto said that it was worrying that youths kept falling prey to a clique of politicians who he insisted had 'nothing to offer' to them.
"Our youths are being used year in year out to cause chaos and terrorise opponents by politicians who do not even have their interests at heart. There is need for young people to realise what is best for them because at the end of the day, you will have yourself to blame should you find yourself on the wrong side of the law while your politician will be safe," Ruto said.
He added that time has come for politicians found inciting youths to be barred from elective politics, insisting that that was the way forward to tame the ghost of negative ethnicity and breach of peace.
Ruto said that the county government of Nakuru was greatly involved in empowering the youth and challenged them to take advantage of the numerous opportunities that the county government was initiating, adding that they should expect more.
He lauded the cohesion commission for pitching camp in the county, saying that their presence was a great unifying factor in a county he described as a hot spot for growth due to its cosmopolitan composition.
