Shukran further encouraged the youthful residents to shun clan politics noting that the vice would not help steer them up to greater political heights.

Speaking in Garissa during the county football tournament sponsored by the National Government Affirmative Action Fund, Shukran stated that Garissa residents risked lagging behind due to the rising political alignments based on clans.

“We should rise up above these clan politics. As youths, you should lead the way in preaching peace and unity as the only way to end conflicts in our region," she said.

Garissa County has in the recent past featured in reports of politicians’ rallying their clans against rival politicians and their respective parties.
