Youths in Nakuru County have been advised to engage in dairy farming and pasture production to create themselves job opportunities.
Speaking in Nakuru on Tuesday, the New Kenya Co-operative Creameries chairman Matu Wamae also said the move is key in improving the dairy sector in the country.
‘It is high time the youth should embrace dairy farming as a way of creating jobs for themselves instead of depending on employers to give them jobs. Thousands of youth still remain jobless and this will help address the issue as well as boost milk production in the country," Wamae said.
The New KCC chair also cited the upcoming milk for school programme under some regional governments as a good opportunity for dairy farmers and thus the youth should seize the opportunity and join the sector.
He further pointed out the need to adopt modern technology like cooling services of milk as a way of developing the dairy sector.
‘I also urge farmers in various groups to invest highly in transportation, cooling services of milk as well as invest in viable programs in the industry to achieve more profits and for better livelihoods.’ Wamae further added.
