Addressing a group of youths at a forum on Saturday in Kithangaini market, Kithangaini sub-chief Jacob Ngei said many young people have failed to secure the mandatory 30 percent of tenders both at county and national government in line with the new constitution as they have not formed groups.

He said that the market has a lot of jobless and idle youths who could get a chance to benefit from the government and non-governmental organisations.

‘’The number of youths with accredited groups that can execute tenders at the county or national level is dismissal. It is enshrined in our constitution but we seem to ignore that good opportunity and that is wrong,” he said.

Chief Ngei noted that unlike in the past, there is no restriction in registering such groups due to the introduction of Huduma Centre Services country wide and she said they should form groups so as to improve their living standards.

‘’The process of registering groups is not as hectic as before since the introduction of Huduma services by the government. We should use this opportunity to ensure we have benefited from our two levels of governance,” he noted.

The officer challenged the youths to be innovative and avoid relying on white collar jobs which were competitive and can only be secured by a few.

“Not all of us can be employed in offices as we may think time has come for us to be bit competitive and innovative to create our own jobs,” he reckoned.

She urged youths to involve themselves in leadership positions and stop engaging in crimes as cases of youths involving in crimes have been rampant in the recent past in the area.
