Speaking during a youth forum at Gesima ward on Thursday, County executive in Charge (CeC) of youth and sports Peter Omwanza said many economically capable youths were lagging behind in development due to divisive politics hence sabotaging development plans.

“For many years now, many our youth have been used unlawfully to participate in illegitimate activities like throwing stones during demonstrations among others. This has totality made them insensitive but there is time to change that,” he said.

He said there are massive opportunities for the young population both in the county and national governments under the new dispensation of the constitution.

“As youth, the new constitution gave us a new dawn especially in tendering and certain constitutional jobs. Apparently, we have not fully seized the golden opportunities provided,” he added.

The move comes after speculations that some county politicians who are against the John Nyagarama led government were busy crafting ways of jeopardizing operations in the county on what they termed as ‘opaque’  leadership allegedly planning to use youths for demonstrations across the county.

Gesima ward Representative Ken Nyameino challenged youths to constitute groups for easy funding by not only the government but also from foreign donors.

Over three groups of youths for the area benefited from a Sh300,000 contribution from the county government.
