Speaking at Gesima market on Tuesday, seasoned politician Victor Ogeto said farming was the only remedy to deal with idling among the youths who have reportedly lost hope in securing jobs.

He challenged youths to shun their negative perception about education, given that most people associate farming with uneducated people.

“This is my humble message to youths in this region. We all understand the current economic situation that has led to unemployment among you. It is sad but we cannot continue sitting back and watch,” he said.

“Farming business is the only way to curb our problems. Whether dairy, poultry or subsistence farming, it is the only temporary solution for us and we should think about it, those who associate farming with uneducated people have missed the point,” he said.

He urged the county government to invest more in youth-oriented projects as a way of making youths appreciate their role in the society besides urging fellow politicians to give support.

“Time has come for the county government to chip in and help youths to implement their projects. I know some of you already are investing in farming and it’s our duty as politicians to also help,” he said.
