Kathiani Member of County Assembly (MCA) Geoffrey Mutuku has asked women and youths in the ward to form groups and seek development funds from the government and Sacco’s.
Speaking after meeting various youth groups on Saturday, the MCA said that through group’s youth and women are likely to get the funds.
He said that the government has set aside enough money meant to empower the youths and women.
“Youths and women should come forward and form groups for them to access development funds. Funds being provided by the government will go a long way in promoting development,” he said.
Mutuku added that many youths are idling and languishing in crime saying that they should come out and apply for the funds. He asked the youths to use the funds to start small business adding that the government will sensitize them on how to apply.
He added: “We are working with the county government to sensitise the youths about the funds. Many of them still do not know much about the money being given out.”
At the same time, Mutuku said that various activities including sports are being used to keep the youths busy.
He said they have launched inter-ward sports so as to reduce the number of young people falling into crime and other social evils.
The ward leader further asked the Machakos County government to put in place more measures meant to curb unemployment and create job opportunities for the many jobless youths.
